Selection Procedures

USAID technical and sectoral teams are taking different approaches with their Government of Indonesia (GOI) counterparts to determine the appropriate training programs and how to recruit HICD candidates. In addition to the GOI engagement, candidates will also pass through:

1. AED review to ensure all general application requirements are met,
2. USAID strategic objective team review to ensure technical requirements are met,
3. USAID review committee to ensure fairness, transparency and appropriateness of the candidates proposed. The review committee will also consider priority factors, such as gender and geographic diversity.

The selection process will necessarily be very competitive. The selection criteria include:

1. Leadership in the candidate’s field,
2. Excellence in the candidate’s technical field,
3. Relevance to the achievement of USAID/Indonesia and GOI development goals,
4. Technical qualifications for specific trainings

AED manages the selection process, placement, pre-departure orientation, monitoring and follow on programs. AED also places degree participants in a variety of institutions. AED works with over four hundred accredited universities in the USA which provide cost share in various forms such as tuition and accommodation reductions and teaching or research assistantships.
