1. What kinds of programs are available this year?

2. Does HICD support programs in computer science or engineering?
The HICD program only supports programs in technical areas that correspond to the needs of the Government of Indonesia approved USAID country strategy. For information on USAID’s programs, see: USAID Indonesia website

3. Is short-term technical training offered?
Short-term training was only funded for one year, the emphasis is on long-term academic degrees in the US, in-country, or third countries.

4. What will be covered by AED for the participants? Will AED cover all the tuition costs or just some of the costs related to studying in the U.S.?
AED will provide tuition fees, living costs, and all other appropriate and allowable costs related to the approved degree program.

5. Do the participants need to find a university before applying ?
No, AED will research appropriate universities, and do placement for the participants.

6. At which U.S. universities are participants placed? Are they accredited?
AED works with over 400 accredited universities and colleges in the US. AED submits applications for each participant to several U.S. universities with appropriate graduate study programs for the individual’s course of studies.

7. At which universities have HICD participants been placed so far?

8. At which Indonesian universities have HICD participants been placed so far?
University of Indonesia, Gajah Mada University.

9. How long does a master’s program in the U.S. take to complete?
It takes approximately 24 months.

10. When does long term training program in U.S. start?
Long term training programs in the U.S. starts in Spring (January) or Fall (September) every year

11. Can the participants bring dependents (spouse or children)?
No, they can not.

12. How many participants will be selected for long term training programs?
It differs from one program to another. You can check our website: www.aed.or.id or check with AED program staff for more information.

13. What test scores serve as proof of English capability for application for long term training?
Institutional TOEFL test scores from IIEF, TOEFL test scores from Educational Testing Service, Institutional TOEFL (ITP) scores from IIEF, or official IELTS scores

14. What is the minimum TOEFL score for application for master’s degree programs?
The minimum scores for a master’s degree program are TOEFL paper based/ITP: 450; TOEFL internet based: 46, TOEFL computer based: 133, IELTS: 5.5

15. Will English training be provided if my English score is too low for university admissions?
Yes, when necessary, participants will receive English training in-country or in the U.S.
