Ruth Wompere,master’s degree in Education at Concordia University in Portland

Ruth Wompere is a staff member of the Language Service Unit of the University of Papua. She has administered the Community Language Service as well as being a teaching assistant for English classes for university students. She was born in Jayapura, her father is a retired bank worker, and she has a younger brother and sister.

Ruth received her BA in English Education at University of Papua in 2001, then taught English at elementary and junior high school until 2003, before joining the university staff. She wants her students to learn English because it is important to their lives, not just to get good grades. Her teachers and colleagues wrote that she is a creative teacher, with strong motivation and leadership ability.

Ruth is now studying for her master’s degree in Education at Concordia University in Portland, Oregon. Concordia ‘s goal is to enable teachers and administrators to encourage positive change in the school environment through collaboration, community building, technology, literacy and best practices that enhance the teaching and learning process.
