Mashuri is a USAID sponsored master’s student at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU)-world renowned Center for Peace and Justice. The program is designed for studies within the peacebuilding field: conflict transformation, restorative justice, trauma healing, community and international development, and organizational leadership. The curriculum is combined with practice-based work grounded in current realities. Its alumni include 63 Fulbright scholars from 20 countries.
Mashuri was born and raised in South Sulawesi and attended university in Central Sulawesi. He is a lecturer at Tadulako University, Central Sulawesi, and a staff member of their Center for Peace Studies and Conflict Management. As the result of the outbreak of conflicts in various regions of Indonesia, such as Poso (Central Sulawesi), Maluku, and Sampit (Central Kalimantan), he wrote that effort should be focused on how to resolve conflict and give more careful attention to conflict prevention. His analysis of emerging problems highlights competition for land and land ownership, transmigration and competition for natural resources and business, and power struggles.
When he returns, Mashuri expects to transfer and share the knowledge and practice obtained from his study with the local community through the activities of Tadulako University’s Centre for Peace Studies and Conflict Management: workshops, training, research, and peace campaigns. He plans to cooperate with the local community and NGOs and contribute to the development of other peace keepers and local NGOs.
