Budiastuti Ontowirjo, PhD in Financial Management at the University of Indonesia
Posted December 10th, 2008 by adminThe Indonesian National Development Planning Agency needs to coordinate policy planning to support financial sector reform. It needs to analyze the behavior of the financial sector, and support the improvement of the functioning of bank and nonbank institutions as sources of financing to the economy. Senior staff are needed with an in-depth understanding of the importance of the functioning of the financial sector in Indonesia and the current problems that need to be addressed.
Together with the National Development Planning Agency, USAID’s Economic Growth team selected Ms. Budiastuti Ontowirjo, currently Deputy Director for Financial Services, Directorate for Financial Services and Monetary Analysis, National Development Planning Agency, for PhD studies. The USAID Human and Institutional Capacity Development Program (HICD) supports her studies in Financial Management at the University of Indonesia. She intends to do research on investment portfolio selection in life insurance companies in Indonesia. She will concentrate on the problems in the insurance industry and the capital market in Indonesia.
As a result of her study, she expects to be able to apply the results to create policy recommendations for regulatory improvement; provide ideas in papers and studies to enrich analysis in the public on issues regarding management in public and private companies in the insurance industry in Indonesia; and train National Development Planning Agency staff in analyzing market selection behavior in Indonesian financial sectors.
